Optically pumped solid-state laser

The laser includes an active laser crystal with optically polished surfaces (2) carrying a multi-layer vapour deposition coating. The layer is transparent to the pumping light provided by the pumping diodes (4) and is highly reflective for the laser radiation wavelength. The laser crystal has a polygonal cross-section and acts as a stable resonator between an input mirror (5) and an output mirror (6). The two mirrors are positioned on the outside of the laser crystal causing laser light to be fed in e.g. a star-shaped path between them.
