The invention relates to shrinkable items, especially flexible, highly heatstable items, like shrink-fit sleeves, foils or tubes for repairing or making insulation, cables pipes, electrical conductors and corrosion protection covers which can be used in a number of applications for heat and chemical-resistant coverings, e.g. as protective sleeves for cables and splices in insulation, corrosion-protection casings from pipes and lines and the like or for the repair of damaged insulation, especially overhead lines. The shrinkable items, which consist of a substrate of a heat-shrinkable, radiation cross-linked thermoplastic material coated on at least part of one side with an adhesive sealant which remains free-flowing when heated, is distinguished in that the plastic substrate is cross-linked in the virtual absence of oxygen.
