Moving vehicle detection and registration by transceiver dialogue

The method for detecting vehicles in traffic within a defined area by means of vehicle transceivers communicating with a fixed transceiver (4) uses a dialogue, in which the position of the vehicle on a road or segment of the road is detected. A second detector system is used for vehicles without transceivers or inoperative transceivers. The transceiver unit at the fixed station (4) sends further activation signals after commencing a dialogue, leading to further dialogues and correction reports. In each succeeding dialogue the new position of the object or vehicle (5) is detected and stored. Time and space correlation for detected and registered objects is performed.
