摘要 A superconducting cable has a bundle of four current-carrying conductors (21 to 24), each comprising the superconducting strands (25) plus two channels (6,8) for the coolant. The channels are open to the conductors. There is direct cooling for each of the four conductors. Typical coolants are liquid helium, nitrogen and hydrogen. Two or more conductors are twisted together and each one is encased in insulation that is permeable to the coolant, using porous or perforated foil. The whole cable is symmetrical about the x- and y-axes. The cable sleeve (5) is in two parts and is made of non-magnetic metal, shaped to form the channel halves and the conductor casing.
