Users wishing to remotely switch their devices initiate a telephone call to a number corresponding to a computer means, the called number inherently identifying the caller, which, under the control of a software program, answers the incoming call and issues instructions to the calling user by means of voice synthesis, said instructions requesting the user to press buttons on his handset keypad corresponding to a pre-established security code associated with the remote switching apparatus. The computer means also comprises a database of numbers corresponding to remote switching apparatus and corresponding security codes. If the correct security code is transmitted by the user to the computer means then the computer means will confirm the authority of the user to activate the switching mechanism and request confirmation that the user wishes to proceed by pressing a specific key on the handset keypad. Upon depressing that key, the computer means will then initiate transmission of a calling signal only to the remote switching apparatus. Receipt of a calling signal by the remote switching apparatus then activates the switching mechanism. |
