A method for making hydroxymethylfurfural from a liquid medium containing at least one aldohexose or a saccharide capable of releasing at least one aldohexose, wherein the liquid is heated to a temperature higher than 100 DEG C in the presence of two separate acidic catalysts at once. The first catalyst consists of an aluminosilicate in proton form having an Si/Al ratio lower than 4, while the second is an aluminosilicate in proton form having an Si/Al ratio higher than 5. |
