The bumper has profile walls (12,14) spaced apart and formed as a compression member and a tension member. A pair of crosswalls (16) connecting them forms a hollow profile. The retainers (22) have a wedge-shaped support part (26), which with its wedge incline (30) locates on the tension member and is connected to it in the area of the highest points of the wedge incline. The retainers incorporate a holder plate fixable to the vehicle longitudinal bearers (24), out of which the wedge-shaped support part is integrally formed. The wedge-shaped support part is screwed or riveted to the tension member.
