Tyre building drum

A tyre assembly drum with a central shaft (2) fixed to a frame (10) comprises two plates (3) that can slide axially w.r.t. each other on the central shaft (2); on each plate are hinged a group of connecting rods (4) with all hinge axes (40) in the same plane perpendicular to the shaft axis and equidistant from it. They are capped at the other end (41). The rods (4) are controlled to move between a closed position and an extended laying up position. An envelope (5) covers the assembly of rods (4) of each group and is anchored to the plate (3) so as to define a close chamber (52) around each group and allow the creation of low pressure in the chamber (52). In the closed position the rods are parallel to the shaft (2) and in the laying up position are at 45-90 deg. to the shaft axis. Also claimed is the mfr. of the assembly drum.
