The refrigerator cools a machine chamber(10) in which a compressor(11) is installed by the cold air from a cooling chamber(6) to enhance the efficiency of the compressor(11). A cooling chamber(6) and the machine chamber(10) are connected to each other by a cold air channel(21) having an open/close means. The open/close means for the cold air channel(21) includes a solenoid(23) having a plunger(22) and an open/close member(24) which is connected to a plunger(22). The solenoid operates only when the compressor(11) is working.
