A method and apparatus for forming an article having a hollow interior are provided wherein flap portions 10, 11, 12, 13 of a blank are supported by a frame and welded to one another by a high frequency welding head. The blank is formed out of synthetic material, with two panel regions 1, 2 connected by a spacer region 4, each panel region having at least one flap part 10, 11, 12, 13 projecting from an edge thereof adjacent the spacer region 4. The blank is folded so that panel regions 1, 2 lie opposite and spaced apart and the flap parts 10, 11 and 12, 13 overlap. A support (14, Figure 3) is inserted into the space between the panel regions 1 and 2 to lie adjacent the flap parts 10, 11, 12 and 13 and a high frequency welding head (17, Figure 3) presses the other side of the flaps to form an article having a hollow interior such as a document wallet or handbag. |
