Method for treatment and/or prevention of cerebral and/or cardiac ischaemia, convulsion and/or sickle cell anaemia wherein a therapeutically effective amount of a compound (I) or salt thereof is administered to a mammal in need thereof with an acceptable diluent or carrier, wherein X is H, nitro, cyano, halo, optionally substituted phenyl, alkyl or -(CH2)n NR1R2 wherein R1 and R2 are optionally substituted aliphatic group, cycloalkyl, or together with their nitrogen atom form a ring; R3 is alkyl, cycloalkyl, guanidine or amine (both optionally N-substituted); R5 is H or optionally substituted aliphatic group; R6 is H, or phenyl, cycloalkyl or aliphatic group (each optionally substituted); or R3 and R5 form a ring; or R3 and R5 form a ring containing 2 nitrogen atoms; or R5 and R6 form a ring; and R7 represents H, N-containing ring, or optional substituents; some of which compounds are novel.
