TENSION CONTROLLER

PURPOSE: To provide a tension controller capable of stably controlling the tension of a magnetic tape without providing the controller with a special tension detecting sensor. CONSTITUTION: A reel 2 for supplying or winding up the magnetic tape 1 is directly connected with a reel motor 3 through a concentric shaft and integrally driven to be rotated, and the rotating speed is detected by a reel speed detection means 4. A winding diameter detection means 5 detects the winding diameter of the reel 2 around which the magnetic tape 1 is wound. A low frequency component is removed from a value detected by the detection means 4 by a high pass filter 6. A adder means 7 adds and synthesizes the detected result by the detection means 5 and output from the filter 6 at specified gain. A motor driving circuit 8 supplies a current in accordance with output from the adder means 7 to the reel motor 3.
