<p>PURPOSE: To provide a fault diagnostic apparatus, for a vehicle, in which data required for a fault diagnosis can be gathered surely irrespective of the content of a trouble phenomenon. CONSTITUTION: A fault diagnostic apparatus 5 for a vehicle steadily receives data on respective items required for a fault diagnosis while it is communicating with an electronic control device 2 loaded on the vehicle, it responds to a prescribed recording trigger input, it records and retains, as data for the fault diagnosis, a required part out of the received data, and it diagnoses the fault of the vehicle on the basis of the recorded and retained data for the fault diagnosis. Then, the fault diagnostic apparatus is provided with a recording-trigger- input-kind discrimination means 55 which is used to discriminate the kind of the arrived recording trigger input, with a first storage means 52 by which the received data is recorded and retained in a time-series manner and with a second storage means 56 by which optimum data is selected from the first storage means 52 on the basis of at least the kind of the trigger input discriminated by the recording-trigger-input-kind discrimination means 52 and by which the optimum data is recorded and retained.</p> |
