PURPOSE: To obtain a new yeast from fish intestinal canal, resistant to fish disease bacteria and having action to suppress proliferating fish disease bacteria, and capable of giving pisciculture feed incorporated therewith in combination with a saccharide and enabling fish diseases to be prevented or suppressed, thus culture fish survival rate to be raised. CONSTITUTION: Fishes such as rainbow trout are sacrificed by bleeding followed by abdominal cutting to squeeze out intestinal contents, which are, in turn, diluted ten-fold with a physiological saline, and the resultant solution is applied to an agar flat medium for yeast culture followed by conducting a culture at 25-33 deg.C for 48-72h; the resultant yeast is then detected and taken, and then further cultured in a liquid or solid medium containing a saccharide such as glucose at 25-33 deg.C to effect proliferation, thus obtaining the objective new yeast, Saccharomyces exiguus [e.g. Saccharomyces exiguus NS-1 (FERM P-14552)], having the above-mentioned advantages. |
