The invention concerns a method for facilitating combustion of a base fuel chosen among the following biomass oils: pyrolysis oil, vegetable oil, tall oil, a mixture of these, any components thereof, in a diesel engine. This is achieved by burning a combustion- supporting additional fuel in said diesel engine, which is chosen among the following alcohol-based substances: a C1-C10 alcohol, an ester of a C1-C10 alcohol and an aliphatic ester, an ester of a C1-C10 alcohol and a resin acid, a mixture thereof.
