PURPOSE: To facilitate restoration of a shaft sealing function without needing replacement of a seal through disassembly of an apparatus when a shaft sealing state is damaged by the trouble of a mechanical seal. CONSTITUTION: When the shaft sealing function of a mechanical seal 5 is damaged, a stuffing box 1 is attached at the outer end part of a seal housing 3 for mechanical seal 5 and a gland packing 7 is mounted on the inner periphery thereof. By fixing the slide ring on the static side of the mechanical seal 5 by means of an end cover 6 fixed on the seal housing 3 side, the gland packing 7 is forced into close contact with the sleeve 41 of a rotary shaft 4. Further, the part group on the rotation side of a mechanical seal 5 from which the slide ring on the static side is removed is constrained by a press ring 2 attached on the outer periphery of the rotary shaft 4. |
