PURPOSE: To improve image quality by excellently accepting each wavelength component of light spectrally diffracted by a hologram in the respective pixels. CONSTITUTION: In this liquid crystal display device, the light from a light source is spectrally diffracted into red, green and blue wavelength components by a hologram 2 and each component of light is focused on the respective pixels R, G, B corresponding to red, green or blue color of a liquid crystal cell 10 to give a color display of the image in the liquid crystal cell 10. The pixel pitch P of the liquid crystal cell 10 is varied according to the diffraction of the hologram P. Even in a pixel far from one diffraction grating of the hologram or in a pixel near the grating, the light as the center of the wavelength component of liquid incident to the pixel can be made to enter in a preferable state. Thus, a desired color can be obtained and the picture image can be improved. |
