LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

摘要

PURPOSE: To provide a liquid crystal display device which prevents the loss by surface reflection and is capable of making adequate color display without impairing the illuminance of a screen by setting the incident angle of white light in order to enhance the utilization efficiency of the white light from a light source. CONSTITUTION: This liquid crystal display device makes color display by irradiating the rear surface of a liquid crystal cell 40 with the light from a light source and has a hologram 20 spectrally splitting the white light 10 made incident at an incident angle θ in a diagonal direction from the light source to light of preset wavelength components and condensing the light to the corresponding color pixels of the liquid crystal cell 40. The incident angle θof the white light is so set as to be a Brewster angle equal to i1 satisfying a relation tani1 = n2 /n1 when the refractive indices of the atm. and the hologram 20 are defined as n1 , n2 . This liquid crystal display device is used by allowing the P polarized light component which is the polarized light component of the white light 10 to transmit the hologram 20 without allowing surface reflection when θ=i1 .
