Typically, the rear edge (18) of the sliding door (12), concealed by the frame (22) when the door is closed, is exposed towards the rear as opening begins. A lamp (16), installed at a convenient point in the rear coachwork and controlled by a switch in the door frame, has its beam directed a catadioptric panel (14) - opt., a fluorescent strip - fixed on the edge, drawing the attention of drivers approaching from behind whenever the door is not completely closed. Opt. lamps are incorporated, as forward-facing elements, in wrap-round rear lamp clusters. Opt., also, two lamps with parallel beams, lit intermittently and alternately, shine on two fluorescent mannikin cut-outs, differentiated in attitude to give the illusion of movement.
