PURPOSE: To obtain a single-mode optical fiber which can reduce dispersion generated by nonlinear effects by making zero-dispersion wavelength longer and making MFD larger without increasing bending loss. CONSTITUTION: The single-mode optical fiber is provided with an internal core which has a diameter 2a and a means of specific refractive index difference Δn1 based upon the refractive index n0 of a clad part, an external core which has a diameter 2b and a mean of specific refractive index difference, less than the specific refractive index difference of the internal core, Δn2 based upon the refractive index n0 of the clad part outside the internal core, and the clad further outside. Here, 0.70%<=Δn1 <=1.2%, 0.12<=Δn2 /Δn1 <=0.16, and 0.15<=2a/2b<=0.25. The radio 2a/2b of the diameter of the internal core to the diameter of the external core is reduced by increasing the mean value Δn1 of the specific refractive index difference of the internal core to increase the MFD without increasing the bending loss. |
