PURPOSE: To provide a bidirectional wavelength multiplex transmission optical amplifier which is stably operated with low noise even when the reflection at a connecting point to a transmission line fiber is large. CONSTITUTION: A bidirectional wavelength multiplex transmission optical fiber connected between transmission line fibers for transmitting two signal lights having different wavelengths in reverse directions to amplify both lights comprises optical isolators 5, 6, bidirectional wavelength multiplex optical couplers 3, 4 for branching or multiplexing the lights having different wavelengths at both ends of the amplifier 7 to transmit the signals having the different wavelengths in the same direction in the amplifier 7 and to amplify it. |
