PURPOSE: To prevent useless shift up from being executed in the middle of a continuous curve by a method wherein even when, in a case of a curve being continued, a curve running state is completed once, a shift speed held during first curve running is held for a given time to prepare for a next curve to which a vehicle runs. CONSTITUTION: A gear shift control device for an automatic transmission comprises a throttle sensor 8; a car speed sensor 9; a brake switch 10; and a lateral G sensor 11 being a curve running detecting means and output signals therefrom are inputted to an A/T control unit 6. Based on an input signal, a target shift speed is decided and a shift signal is outputted. In this case, when a deceleration demand is effected, shift control for deceleration is executed based on a throttle operation speed and deceleration. When a vehicle is brought into a curve running state in succession to deceleration operation, a shift speed for deceleration is held during curving. During a deceleration demand which is estimated to prepare for a subsequent curved during curve running, a state to hold a shift speed for deceleration is continued for a given time even after completion of curving. |
