PURPOSE: To provide a shift control device for an automatic transmission to effect shift control having no feeling of physical disorder by considering a parameter by means of which a driver expects a shift. CONSTITUTION: A shift control device for an automatic transmission comprises a gear shift pattern selecting device 16; and a speed reduction intention detecting/car speed storing device 17. Outputs from an accelerator opening sensor 21 and a car speed sensor 22 are inputted to a device 17. The device 17 has a means to calculate, for example, an average car speed, and a means to detect the speed reduction intention of a driver from information obtained by a brake operation sensor 25, a shift lever movement detecting sensor 26, and the accelerator opening sensor 21. A means is provided to store an average car speed at a point of time, when a speed reduction intention is detected, classified by a selecting gear ratio and calculate a new car speed to be stored from a car speed stored in the past and a present car speed value. A timing at which a gear shift pattern is switched is decided by a device 17 and when it is detected that a car is running at a stored car speed in a selected gear ratio, a shift pattern is switched. |
