PURPOSE: To prevent the erroneous detection of the phase difference between a pair of the images of the objects, which are received by right and left optical sensor arrays by the intrusion of stray light SL caused by the bright backlight of the background and the like. CONSTITUTION: A specified number of sensor data are received by optical sensor arrays 3L and 3R, which indicate the patterns of images IL and LR, and extracted from sensor data groups DL and DR. A plurality of combinations C0-Cm partial groups dL and dR of the sensor data are formed by sequentially deviating the extracting position right and left alternately. At least one of the maximum value and the minimum value of the absolute values of the differences between the corresponding sensor data of both partial groups within the combinations Cj is obtained as an index E, which indicates the correlation degree of the right and left partial groups dL and dR. The phase difference is detected based on the relational positions of the partial groups dL and dR of the combination number (j), where the index E takes the minimum or maximum extreme value, and the optical sensor arrays 3L and 3R. |
