摘要 PURPOSE: To obtain push-pull actions with simple constitution. CONSTITUTION: Incident light passes a light input side waveguide 12 and is branched to two diagonal waveguides 14a, 14b in a Y-shaped branch 13. Voltages are impressed on these diagonal waveguides 14a, 14b by upper electrodes 15a, 15b, by which electric fields are generated therein. At this time, detuning parts largely to the extent that a primary electro-optical effect mainly arises and, therefore, the change ratesΔn1 ,Δn2 of the refractive indices in the diagonal waveguides 14a, 14b attainΔn1 =-Δn2 . As a result, the push-pull actions are realized by impressing the voltages of the same magnitude and impression direction on the diagonal waveguides 14a, 14b, by which chirping is made zero in principle.
