A process is disclosed for recognising the malfunction of a sensor of speed of rotation, for example the sensor for the speed of rotation of the wheels in ABS systems. Wheel speeds are derived from signals supplied by the sensor of the speed of rotation. Filtered wheel speeds and filtered wheel speed changes are derived from the wheel speeds. By comparing filtered and non-filtered values, and by carrying out plausibility analyses, sensor errors, in particular the absence of a sensor signal, are recognised.
