In a dust removal system, cleaned air from a working area is supplied to the area via a return air line (1), contg. a measuring line (2) into which part of the clean air is passed to control filters (3). A change in the filter characteristic caused by deposited dust is detected and, when a predetermined limiting value is exceeded, the air is diverted into waste air operation, e.g. passing into the open air. Parameter for change of characteristics is pref. pressure loss or pressure gradient resulting from change in pressure per unit time.
