A method for maximising the efficiency of a burner plant, with respect to fuel quality (especially its moisture content), when burning solid fuel (especially biofuel or peat) in a plant containing a gasifier for converting solid fuel into combustion gases. Burner efficiency is maximised by controlling the flow of air into the gasifier and this method contains the following steps :(1) measurement of the temperature in or close to the gasifier at regular intervals ; (2) the measured temperature is recorded as a function of time ; (3) a first order function is created to link temperature and time ; (4) air flow is increased if the function has a value greater than or equal to zero ; and (5) air flow is reduced if the function has a value less than zero.
