A nonlinear optical generator (11) which includes an optical fiber (16) is described. The optical fiber (16) has perturbations (17) in the effective index of a mode guided by the same. These perturbations (17) are simply provided as a multitude of transitions between the indices of refraction of the fiber (16), spaced along the path of radiation within the same.
