A boot sole (2) is coupled to the foot shell (1) and a shaft (4), consisting of a rear (5) and front shaft shell (6), is swivelably fitted about an axis (3,11), extending across the boot longitudinally and parallel to boot sole. The two shaft shells are coupled by a clamping rope (8) which serves also for narrowing the inner shaft space.The clamping rope is effective from front top to rear bottom (double arrow 9), i.e. halving the angle between the boot sole and the shaft centre axis (10) so that the front shaft shell is pulled into the instep region (7) of the boot.
