Continuous exothermic reaction in a solid bed reactor

Process for continuously carrying out exothermic reactions in a solid bed reactor comprises periodically igniting reaction zones throughout bed. The novelty comprises igniting whilst: (a) performing foreign ignition by local heating of the catalyst at the reactor inlet to the ignition temp.; and (b) feeding energy stored in the reaction zone through a crosscurrent feed, i.e. vertically to the sepn. wall to the incoming phase through the gas inlet region and thus heating the catalyst located at the reactor inlet to the ignition temp.
