The method reduces the time for ejecting or loading the tray in the front loading type compact disk player by varying the ejection/loading speed according to a play mode or a stop mode, and prevents poor playing conditions according to the ejection during the playing mode. The method comprises steps of determining the current status of the player at the input of the ejection command signal; ejecting the tray at a high speed in the case of the stop status by controlling the motor driver; ejecting the tray at a low speed in the case of the playing status by controlling the motor driver.
