Process for making a light weight insulating panel from a porous mineral material.

Prodn. of a porous mineral light insulating plate comprises; (a) forming a binder slurry made of cement, ground quartz, hydrated lime and water in a colloidal mixer (1); (b) forming a foam in a foam producing unit (8) made of water, pressurised air and air pores former; (c) mixing the binder and foam to form a foam-concrete compsn.; (d) homogenising the compsn. using a static mixer (20); (e) placing the compsn. into a mould (23) to form a mould cake for the light insulating plate; (f) stiffening the cake; (g) cutting the cake into individual plates; and (h) hardening the plates in an autoclave. Also claimed is the light insulating plate produced.
