<p>Meat product casing has a first tubular member (11) with a tubular net (12) located around and concentric with the tubular member. The tubular net (12) has circumferential elastic cords (13) and longitudinal cords (14). The diameter of the circumferential cords is such that as the tubular member (11) is filled with meat product they are placed under tension before the tubular member reaches its maximum diameter. Also claimed is the method of shirring the casing by sealing one end of the tubular member, locating the other end over the injection nozzle, inflating the casing to its full diameter so as to partly extend the circumferential cords, and space them evenly along the tubular member, and pushing the inflated casing onto the nozzle so portions of the member between circumferential cords fold outwardly and the casing concertinas onto the nozzle.</p> |
