PURPOSE:To improve extreme pressure properties and abrasion resistance, by adding a particular phosphoric ester to a lubricating base oil. CONSTITUTION:A phosphoric ester (B) of formula II (wherein h=0-2; k=0-3; m=0-3; n=0-2; h+k+m=3; X is a divalent group represented by any one of formulae III-VI; and Y is Y1) is obtd. by reacting a dihydric phenol (a) with a dialkyl phosphoryl chloride (b) of formula I (wherein each of Y1 and Y2 is a 1-22C alkyl, alkenyl, or alkynyl, phenyl or a phenyl substd. with a 1-22C alkyl (or halogenated derivative thereof)) in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst (e.g., AlCl3). A lubricating base oil, such as a mineral oil, a natural animal or vegetable oil, a synthetic ester oil or a polyether, is mixed with 0.1-20wt.% component (B) and optionally additives (C), such as an extreme-pressure agent, a rust preventive, an antioxident, a cleaner and a dispersant. |
