PURPOSE: To produce anα-olefin polymer in such a manner that the formation of an atactic polyolefin is suppressed while the catalyst activity is kept high. CONSTITUTION: Anα-olefin polymer is produced by using anα-olefin polymerization catalyst component obtained by grinding a compound of the general formula: TiCl3 .1/3.AlCl3 (titanium trichloride (AA)) and an electron donor ester (ED) in a molar ratio (AA/ED) of 1-5, treating the obtained solid product with an aromatic hydrocarbon or a halohydrocarbon at 50 deg.C or below and a halogenated organoaluminum compound. According to this process, the polymer formed has little residual catalyst, by-products can be prevented from being formed, and the load in the washing step can be lightened.
