PURPOSE: To contribute to the improvement of productivity of a blast furnace and to continue the stable operation of the blast furnace by preventing the excess lowering of a cohesion zone, in order to connect this prevention to an operation improved action in the case the furnace condition is liable to fall into aggravation. CONSTITUTION: As furnace condition control indices, NMn value, NSi value and NS value are obtd. from the respective relative values in terms of the ratios of actual Mn, Si and S values respectively to an equivalent Mn value, equivalent Si value and equivalent S value at the time of (FeO)=0.2-0.3% in a slag - metal reaction. When the NMn value or the NS value becomes <100, it is judged that the operation is turned to be unstabilized. According to the values ofΔNMn (=NMn -100),ΔNSi (=NSi -100) andΔNS (=NS-100), the rising amount of a fuel ratio and the improving ratio of quality of the charging material, etc., are adjusted to maintain NMn value >=100 or NS value >=100, and the stable operation can be attained.
