PURPOSE: To obtain a modified chlorinated polyolefin which is excellent in shelf stability and gives a coating film excellent in physical properties by copolymerizing a chlorinated polyolefin with anα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid (anhydride) and a (meth)acrylic monomer, etc. CONSTITUTION: A chlorinated polyolefin (e.g. chlorinated polypropylene) is copolymerized with anα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid (e.g. maleic acid) or its anhydride (e.g. maleic anhydride) and a monomery such as a (meth)acrylic monomer (e.g. methyl acrylate), and/or an oligomer, such as a (meth)acrylic oligomer, to give a modified chlorinated polyolefin. A solution of the obtained modified polyolefin in an organic solvent can be preserved as a homogeneous solution for a long time by incorporating, e.g. n-butyl acetate or cyclohexanone therein. Since this solution gives a coating film excellent in tight adhesion, gloss, etc., the modified polyolefin is suitable for a coating material, an ink, etc.
