PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound useful for treating ovarian, mammary, pulmonary cancers, etc., with good productivity by culturing a tissue, a cell, etc., of a plant capable of producing a taxane type diterpene in a culture medium containing a saccharide and nitrate ions at specific concentrations under specified conditions and recovering the resultant product. CONSTITUTION: A tissue or a cell or both of a plant capable of producing a taxane type diterpene (e.g. Taxus breviflolia) are transplanted into a culture medium containing a sucrose, glucose or fructose at 2-50g/l concentration thereof, nitrate ions such as potassium nitrate, sodium nitrate or calcium nitrate at 2-50mmol/l concentration thereof in culturing the tissue or the cell or both of plant capable of producing the taxane type diterpene. A nutrient source solution daily containing the saccharide at 0.2-5g/l concentration or the nitrate ions at 0.2-5mmol/l concentration based on the initial volume of the culture medium or both is continuously or intermittently added to the culture medium to carry out the culture. The resultant product is recovered from the prepared cultured product to thereby afford the objective taxane type diterpene (e.g. taxol) useful as a therapeutic agent for ovarian, mammary, pulmonary cancers, etc. |
