PURPOSE: To prepare the subject lubricating oil for passenger car, containing a viscosity index improver consisting of plural specific polymers, effective for maximizing the effect of a molybdenum-based friction and abrasion preventing agent, exhibiting low friction coefficient even after oxidative deterioration of the lubricating oil and useful for reducing the fuel consumption. CONSTITUTION: This lubricating oil contains (A) 0.3-30wt.% of a viscosity index improver composed of a polymer containing (i) 20-70wt.% of an alkyl acrylate and (ii) 80-30wt.% of an alkyl methacrylate as constituent units, (B) 0.05-5wt.% of a molybdenum-based friction and abrasion preventing agent and (C) 99.65-65wt.% of a lubricating base oil. Preferably, the component (i) is an alkyl acrylate having an 8C alkyl group or its combination with an alkyl acrylate containing a 1-4C alkyl group, the component C contains an oil containing an isomerized paraffin and having high viscosity index as an essential component and the lubricating oil further contains (D) a pour point depressant at a weight ratio (A:D) of 80:20 to 99:1. |
