The drain water flows through an interchangeable filter element (3) accommodated in a housing (2) with water inlet and outlet unions. The housing is fixed in position, and the element with frame is inserted in and removed from it at right angles to the water flow direction, no disturbance of the water inlet and outlet unions (6a,6b) being necessary. The element can have a drip-preventing portion at its underside and incorporating a collector vessel (16), moving into the working position after extraction from the housing, typically by tilting. There can be a carrying handle (18) attached to the element frame, attached to it at a point clear in the horizontal direction of the centre of gravity, while the drip-preventing portion is to the other side of the centre of gravity.
