An end base for a can with a quadrangular cross section can be executed according to the invention as an edge section 1, which is essentially of a uniform width, and which on its underside 7 is provided with a synthetic coating. The wall of the can 11 is lacquered on its inside, a corrosion-resistant packaging being obtained for e.g. materials in brine. The end base is provided with a penetrable film 3 of synthetic laminate with an aluminium layer. The synthetic film 3 is welded onto the underside of the edge section 1. The edge section 1 has a turning 17 at the same time. With the end base and tin can according to the invention, the problems with storage and transportation of corrosive goods, e.g. feta cheese in brine, are solved. At the same time, the shape of the end base makes it possible to render the contents of the can easily accessible. <IMAGE>
