The patient carries a portable unit (12) which has a number of amplifiers (16) receiving signals from bodily electrodes (18). The signals are digitised and filtered (22) then passed to a processor (24) and memory (26). The processor (24) pretreats the signals stored in the memory (26). An input/output interface (28) allows the pretreated signals to be sent to a remote station via an emitter (14). The transmitting link may be a switched telephone network or a digital radiotelephone if interaction is required. The remote station has a receiver (30) and processing (32) capable of producing a diagnosis interpretable by an operator.
