The table (7) is adjustable for height and in the lengthwise direction, and protrudes over the bed in the working position. Its foot (1) is mounted on rollers (8). Below the table are a shelf (6) and one or more bodies (4, 5), these and the table being movable in the vertical direction by a drive mechanism and mounted on a slide lockable in position. One or more sliding drawers are also included. The mechanism can be hand-driven via a crank (34,35) or by a motor. There can be two hand cranks, at opposite lengthwise sides of the table.
