A steep or vertical conveyor for bulk materials (13) has a driven conveyor belt (1) pressed by a pressing device against a fixed, non-resilient wall (3). The height of the sliding metal sheet (3) may be adjusted over the whole length of the conveyor path, so that various loading heights and conveyor paths are obtained. A gap is always present between the conveyor belt (1) and the sliding metal sheet (3). The height of the sliding metal sheet (3) may be adjusted in that the metal sheet is a steel strip whose bottom end is wound around a drum (18).
