The stepped plunger (1) has an oblique control edge working with a suction hole and forms a sealing joint with the barrel, in relation to which it can be turned. A cylindrical stepped portion (2) is ground in the plunger, its axis (4) being eccentric to the central axis (3) of the main portion.The eccentricity of the stepped portion in relation to the control edge (7) can be such that the depth of the stepped portion at the suction hole (6) can be less in the part-load position of the plunger than in the full-load position. At one point, the periphery of the stepped portion can be on a common line with that of the plunger.
