The device has a housing (2) with a guide tube (3), along which an annular piston (4) can move longitudinally. The piston can be acted upon by a pressure in a space (6), in order to release a friction clutch.A pretensioning element is arranged between the piston and the guide tube, and projects into a circumferential groove in the piston. The element has an axial width which is less than that of the groove, and can move axially, once a particular force has been exceeded. It may take the form of a friction ring (8).
