A needleless connector for adding medication to a parenteral fluid is provided. In one embodiment (Figs. 1-7), an adapter (100) is provided for securing to a Y connector (200) having a standard puncture pad (210). The adapter (100) includes a cannula (128) for piercing the pad (210) and a valve (130A) is opened by the attachment of a syringe (300). In a second embodiment (Figs. 8-11), the Y connector (200A) itself contains the valve (100A) in lieu of the puncture pad. In a final embodiment (Figs. 12-16), the valve is contained within a universal luer connector adapter (700).
