The packaging comprises two shells (1) made of rigid material which can be pushed onto the appliance from two opposite sides. The shells are tensioned towards each other by at least one tension belt with their base wall (2) against a side wall of the packed appliance and with their side wall having feet (5). The side walls form the stand face (3) in the packing mode. Indentations (7) formed in the side wall (6) of the shell opposite the stand face (3) correspond in position and size to the feet.When stacking packaged appliances the feet engage in the indentations of the package below to rule out slipping. The two shells are identical and can taper slightly conically towards the base wall. The shells have on the outside channel-type grooves to take the tension belt.
