The control device is for torque which is generated by the engine during a speed change. Another unit computes and transmits an engine torque control magnitude in response to the output of the first computer. The engine torque is controlled during a speed change in response to the second computer output.The torque is reduced by a preset valve at a first time point of the engine torque control time points. Then follows an increase of the engine torque at a second torque control time point. Then the engine torque is returned to that of a time point directly before the first torque control time point.
